The Use of Data and Effective Transition in Providing Individually Tailored Academic and Behavioral Support Services for Youth in the Juvenile Justice and Child Welfare Systems is the second in the NDTAC's 2012–13 Webinar series, Tailoring Academic and Behavioral Support Services for Youth.

NDTAC Director Simon Gonsoulin opened the Webinar with an overview of NDTAC’s work and an introduction to this series of webinars. Nicholas Read, NDTAC Technical Assistance Liaison, then reviewed NDTAC’s Practice Guide and the practices and strategies related to data use and transition services.

Kathleen O’Neill Sande, Title I, Part D, program manager, Washington State Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction; and Kristin Schutte, state project lead, Olympic Educational Service District presented examples of data use and youth transition in the State of Washington. Ms. Sande and Ms. Schutte discussed the use of Washington’s data program systems and other corroborating data to effectively serve high-risk, vulnerable youth. They included in their discussion how Washington’s education advocates utilize the Comprehensive Education Data and Research System (CEDARS) and other corroborating data to identify, intake, monitor, and develop student/youth success plans. They provided insight into the work of education advocates with high-risk/vulnerable youth who transition from long-term and detention facilities and those at risk of dropping out of school. Finally, they reviewed data use throughout the period that services were provided to assist, guide, and coach the student/youth to achieve positive outcomes.
